Santen increases its portfolio of dry eye products in Portugal with the launch of Puralid Lipogel. It is an ophthalmic product with a unique composition of ingredients on the market to soothe and clean the eyelids and periocular region during inflammatory processes such as blepharitis or blepharoconjunctivitis. Blepharitis is a chronic disease and requires continuous treatment of symptoms through eyelid hygiene. Although eyelid hygiene is essential to treat symptoms, some patients may have difficulties in adopting regular hygiene habits. Currently, the usual treatment is aimed at controlling the symptoms. Puralid Lipogel's composition is unique and is formulated with liposomes, which gives it a pleasant texture for easy application, as well as being the vehicle for other ingredients such as tea tree oil, vitamin A, xanthan gum, ferulic acid, vitamin E TPGS and alpha bisabolol, with multiple properties to relieve symptoms of blepharitis1: Liposomes, made up of a double layer of phospholipids, are known for their softening and emollient properties, as well as their ability to effectively deliver active ingredients. Tea tree oil, extracted from Melaleuca alternifolia, is known for its antimicrobial properties. Vitamin A strengthens and maintains the skin by regulating epithelial function. It is also an antioxidant that, together with xanthan gum, ferulic acid and vitamin E TPGS, acts in synergy with liposomes to protect the eyelid surface against the oxidative action of free radicals and UV rays. Alpha bisabolol is the main component of chamomile essential oil. It has soothing properties, reduces redness and inflammation, even for particularly delicate skin. It is characterized by good skin tolerability. Furthermore, Puralid Lipogel does not contain parabens, PEG (Polyethylene Glycol), mineral oils, alcohol, silicones, perfumes or paraffins, and can therefore be used in patients with delicate skin and after eye surgery.
